OPERATION WRITE HOME CARDS FOR FRIENDS WITH FLAIR FRIDAY

We do cards for Operation Write Home at my LSS (Cat's Creations Scrapbooks in Mineral Wells, Texas) every other month.  I noticed that it is only a couple of weeks until that time, so I wanted to get a jump on making my cards.  I try to do 20 cards and we usually collect a box full when we do the cards.  I decided to use a 6 x 6 pad of paper I had purchased especially for making cards.  This paper is the Splash collection and, as you can see, the colors are perfect for birthday cards.  I believe the stamp on this card is from an older Kit of the Month.  I thought it was a fun stamp to use...it's the image and sentiment all in one.  I stamped it on red cardstock that was in this paper pad and then put a dot of gold Stickles on the stars, glossy accents on the icing, and then used my green pearl pen to make the polka dots on the cake dimensional.  The cake is mounted on a chipboard circle from Creative Cafe by Creative Imaginations that I sanded and then painted using Twinkling H20's--I was really pleased with the mottled color --- it kind of looks like a globe!  This chipboard circle is backed by a paper doily.  The ribbon is just a scrap I had in my stash.
This card also uses the same paper pad by Echo Park.  The cake stamp is from the May 2011 kit of the month -- I love this cute cake!  I stamped it on Bazzill smooth cardstock that is made for coloring with Copics and then I used my Copics to color the stripes and dots to match the paper.  The tape on this card is by Queen & Co. -- I love tapes....they are so versatile.  I used an old McGill punch to punch out the oval that I stamped the sentiment on and inked the edges with Broken China distress ink.  Even though I don't particularly like coloring with my Copics, I really loved the way this turned out.  I can see why they are so popular for coloring--I tried coloring with some other markers I have and wasn't happy at all with them.  If I could just stay inside the lines when I color, I might enjoy it more.  As it is, I have to cut everything out...

I have mentioned my LSS, Cat's Creations Scrapbooks, many times on my blog and am thrilled that they were featured on BoBunny's blog this week.  Here is the post and I would love for you to click on the link and see why I love this store, Cat and Nanci so much.  Cat is so much fun and she and Nanci are super creative, as you can see.  Plus, Cat loves her customers.  Just this morning she posted on facebook that she is giving her facebook fans a 20% discount off of the sale bin (50% off) merchandise this weekend if they show her that post from facebook.  Her husband helps her at the store and is such a good sport---she showed us what his face looked like when she told him what she was doing.  We love our Ray, also known as "Tomcat".  He is always willing to play along and even played the murder victim when she had a "murder mystery weekend" event at the store.  Like I said, we have a lot of fun!

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to leave a comment for a chance to win some Unity goodness.  Enjoy the rest of the hop and have a fabulous weekend.
